The City offers two free composting options for residents:
- Food scrap composting, in partnership with Scrapdogs Community Compost
- Yard waste and brush composting
To compost at the Transfer Station, please register for a free Recycling-Only Permit or an Annual Permit. Finished yard waste compost produced by the City is available for purchase.
Food Scrap Composting
Instead of throwing your food in the trash, collect food scraps and other compostable items in a separate bin at home. On trash day, empty the bin for free at the Transfer Station’s new community compost bins instead of throwing it in the trash hopper! Please be sure to remove stickers from fruits and vegetables, and please do not compost items that are made of plant-based cellophane, even if they say “compostable” or “biodegradable” on the item.
The City’s Food Scrap Composting program is a drop-off program only. Residents who drop off their food scraps for free will not receive finished compost in return. For residents interested in receiving finished food waste compost, the Transfer Station also hosts a drop-off site for ScrapDogs subscribers. Residents who sign up for a paid ScrapDogs subscription can drop off their food scraps at the subscribers-only station and receive finished compost in return. Learn more about this program at scrapdogscompost.com.
